what solvent can be used to remove decanol in solution? I used to synthesis my product using decanol as starting material, how can i remove it to get pure product during solvent extraction? Thank you.
Even though I used column chromatography as my last option, the yield I got is not good.
without knowing the polarity or nature of the product and the solution being used, it is difficult to say what will be a good solution,
another point to consider is what is the decanol used for? If it is a reactant, maybe you could reduce its equivalence.
You can also try vacuum distillation to remove the decanol or lowering the temperature (mp 6oC) to crash out the decanol.
To remove decanol in solution you can use pet ether to remove it by column chromatography.

Solubility of 1-decanol in water is very poor (Solubility in water, g/100ml at 20°C: 0.37) and that means that 1-decanol acts as a non-polar solvent... the question is: how that might be possible. The answer is that 1-decanol is able to hydrogen bond with itself in comparison with water molecule to form (1-decanol)2 in solution as a dimer. The dimer which is formed is non-polar. So, non-polar solvents such as hexane can be considered as good solvents for 1-decanol.

If your product is thermally stable, you can evaporate decanol in vacuum. Its remaining balance won't disturb you in case of a column chromatography. The choice of system of solvents will depend on polarity of your product.
You can evaporate (distill-off) 1-decanol in vacuum by approx. 110 ºC, for about 10 mmHg; or at a lower temperature for higher vacuum. Of course, the solute must be less volatile and thermally stable for the selected temperature. Selective extraction of either 1-decanol or the solute with another solvent, seemingly could be alternatively considered, depending in the actual (solute) product ― not identified at this query enunciate.

Thank you for your replied. My product is non-polar. I But during TLC with hexane : Ethyl acetate (4:1) my product will be at upper position meanwhile decanol at lower position.
