Actually, I have to detect bacteria (airborne microorganisms responsible for infections) using patient breathing mask for a project. My first aim is to find a suitable 'bacteria detecting agent (which should be in liquid form so I can somehow electrosprayed on mask).
Please, can any body help me? Open to suggestions and advice; if you have any other thoughts or ideas, would like to hear that too.

Did you consider using ultrapure water? Since the mask acts as a filtering agent, you may consider soaking the mask to ultrapure water to dissociate cells from the mask. Afterwards, you can perform appropriate isolation techniques dependent on the nature of your target isolates.

There's a difference between bacteria and their DNA, latter being quite isolated by membranes, especially cell membrane or cell wall. This means that you won't be detecting the DNA itself, rather than something surrounding it first (unless you have some really smart fiber I have no knowledge of). If your design is a face mask, then there is also an issue of dead keratinocytes off the skin which will be getting on both sides, so you will need something prokaryote-specific. IMHO, you should look up some cell wall-specific stain and think of a way to modify it to your needs.
