I usually perform buckling analysis first to obtain the first buckling mode then I use it with scale as initial imperfection in nonlinear analysis

here is an example for square plate

Not:there is one line in the input file of buckling must be added in order to let abaqus save the first buckling mode to a file which nonlinear analysis will read it

Thank You sir Raafat E S ismail, I have data for the initial imperfection for the whole member and I want to put it in ABAQUS. I have done the scripting and opened it in the software then I got error saying the imperfection keyword is incorrect.

I feel maybe the problem is with the version I am using as it is ABAQUS/CAE 2016.

Thank You but actually that's what I did for the input file then I import it as a model into the software. It worked on my professor's ABAQUS 6.12 but didn't work on mine. Probably it is from the version am using.

I think you have written your buckling model name in editkyword instead of writing your buckling model's job name.

I wish you could obviate your problem.

If we have 2 steps in a job, the first step is a static, general analysis and the second is static, Riks. so how can we apply the imperfection for only the second step in this job? Thank you for your help!
