I dont know how to properly approach the problem of not knowing where to start when I meet a problem or concept i dont understand completely when reading a research article.
Also, is it a good advice to keep reading from textbook instead of research article.
My reading habit is linear , is there anywhere to resolve this problem? I realised i spent alot of time reading with no progress.
Yes you can read the article repeatedly. You may understand it fully or partially. In case you still have problem in understanding some parts, you can always ask the corresponding author of the article. Most likely he/she will respond.
Reading without comprehension is really a waste of time. The best thing to do is to consult your mentors or professors regarding an article you do not understand but you think is necessary for your own research. Books and journal articles are equally important if publish by reputable publishers.
