We are designing BLS1 BSL2 and BSL3 labs.

Lab 23 Bacterial isolation BSL3 level
Lab 25 Viral isolation BSL3 level.
Other labs are separate preparation labs for virus and bacteria separately.
And one common DNA, RNA extraction lab.
My question is....
What should be pressure in each lab..
How much is the difference in pressure in Pascal.
Most negative pressure in core virus and Bacteria isolation labs...
- 12 pascals difference in between virus/ bacteria isolation labs and all other labs
(Remaining all other lab may have similar pressure)
or
Pressure difference between virus /Bacteria isolation labs and every labs ?( with -12 Pascal's pressure difference between remaining each lab)
Hi Mr Devendra,
The perimeter corridor of BSL3 is recommended with positive pressurization wrt to atmosphere preferably +15Pa. And the containment starts at Wet shower. Wet shower is preferred to be at -25Pa and there on a gradual -12Pa is preferred. (NIH recommends -12Pa across the rooms) Wherever there is a high risk, you can increase the DP to -25Pa but it is not mandatory. However in no case in all failure conditions, the DP across the rooms should not be less than -7.5Pa as per NIH guidelines.
