Is it important to analyse the minimum time period required by any journal for Editorial Peer Review Process before submitting manuscript? As their is so much of pressure from institution and in academic courses to publish articles on timely basis. Some institution even makes protocol that every senior acadmecians need to publish a specified number of papers in a year. I have submitted a paper in a renouned journal but i am waiting for thier comments from last 6 months. What should i do? Can Quality and Timely publication go hand by hand?

journal should give time frame and one month is enough to decide about approval or rejection of manuscript.Authors should also reply queries in 1-2 days. Communication is now quite fast
6 months ? bad news. I totally agree with Dr. Fathy, and agree with Dr. Ahmad, one month is quite enough for a journal for approval, and I suggest that this aspect must take place in journals classifications !

Now a days most of the journals are following rapid peer-review, where the review process takes 20-30 days for the first round of review. In my opinion, 30 days is more than sufficient to give quality review comments. However, it again depends on number of assignments the reviewer is handling.
I believe 6 months is a very long period. I suggest you to contact the respective journal editor and track the status. If there is no update on the review then it would be better to withdraw the article and submit it to another journal.
Note: In case of article withdrawal, check the journal guidelines carefully.

I have seen few reputed publishers retracted many articles at a time and claimed that they were not reviewed well, hence, what kind of process the journal is adopted is important. Moreover, some reputed publishers stating 2-3 weeks are enough but fewer following 30 days minimum. You are lucky if you get reviewer comments within few days after initial submission, otherwise, find another journal. Interestingly, researchers find an alternative, submitting the same article to various journals at a time and accepting for publication for those who complete the review earlier. Quality is secondary !!!!!!!

Higher the journal's reputation, higher the time they take for the process (in my personal observation). There are instances of rejection after 11 months of reviewing as well; No revisions were advised.
