Now I have in mind another woman with disability from opera - Solveig from "Peer Gynt". Solveig waited for beloved and finally lost her sight, because, had wept eyes for Peer Gynt.

I share great song by Bob Dylan & Mark Knopfler entitled "Blind Willie McTell" dedicated to other blues singer who was blind on one eye - Willie McTell. Song is really amazing also because of these two excellent artists. The song was recorded in 1983. Every part of lyrics ends with sentence: "And I know no one can sing the blues like Blind Willie McTell", This express attitude with valorization of potential of Willie McTell.

Dear All, I found another song expressing kind of psychological difficulties. Bob Dylan is singing "Love sick", which is not exactly song of disability, but of "sickness" as a metaphor to description of emotional discomforts and some depressive mood. So the main theme is "sickness" a medical term. Lyrics is making Bob Dylan singing "my feet are so tired, my brain is so wired" - perceived as bodily sensations. Entire beautiful song is in depressive mood. I wonder what was first in this lyrics - depressive mood of poet or love troubles ?

Most of you know that every year in Italy there is the Sanremo's festival which is the national.popular exposition of Italian songs in the world. Some years ago. Aleandro Baldi was the festival winner with a song titled "Non amarmi". This singer and author is really a blind person. The song text asked his girlfriend to do not love him "for the taste of something different" and concluded "Do not love me, but I realize how true a lie may be; do not love me, but do not send me away ". I think that if you are interested, you can find it on You Tube. However, I was struck by the inner contradiction that a disability can lead even in a situation of love.

@Nelson O: that song is beautiful. And the voice is so powerful. But Enzo can tell us that the abdominal breathing to produce such resonance may lead to negative health conditions, in later life, when we are old.

Speaking of Eliza, I'm aware, that after such experiments, therapies with words or even shocking personality changes, Eliza finally had enough of instrumentality. Dear Nelson, I share great song of Lhasa de Sela, talented American young singer, born in 1972, died in 2010 because of breasts cancer.

She fought with this illness dramatically. I like her touching and difficult lyrics, of songs she sang. Many sound emotional and desperate, however there are also delicate dialogues in lyrics, when she almost whispers. - "Raising" is moving song and good example of experienced helplesness, when she speaks "I got caught in a storm and carried away I got turned, turned around".

The other moving song "El Desierto" is in Spanish, but I share English translation too - "Desert". I find there dark frustrations because of emptiness. Is love desert, only one answer for this lyrics ? I think, not the one. How deeply is frustrated the artist - singer who is fighting cancer ? Maybe this is the context too ? Is the metaphor - desert an explanation and solution to the poet ?

I could here and feel the deep level of helplessness and fear in the one not being able to find his way home. It may go far beyond that to buttress further that to be blind, might just literally mean a complex and mixed level of needs, fear, helplessness and loneliness that people with one disability or the other might be going through.

Yes this is it. You have said it all.

I once took part in a seminar (Li(v)fe Seminar, it had to do with how we see and perceive people with different types of disabilities as well as level of psycho-sociological impact it has on the affected, their family members, friends and colleagues, directly and or indirectly in their respective normal and everyday life, especially outside of their homes.

Li(v)fe seminar enabled participants to get to know and understand other aspects of communication that might have long been ignored. That also created another avenue for discussions to enabled participants to be able to show more empathy, tolerance and understanding. It also gave participants a broader avenue to see how people with different types of disabilities, resulting from rheumatic disorder, stroke and other neurological damages being perceived in the society, especially outside their homes. Where some severe difficulties were identified, appropriate measures were been noted.

There was a brief lecture, followed by discussions. Participants were grouped to role-play their respective chosen disabilities.

Major objective for this seminar was to be able to demonstrate the importance and power of observation, empathy and professionality in the nursing and other related health care professionals. Therefore the seminar successfully opened up a special door for participants to get a firsthand experience of what it is like to have one type of disability or the other. This actually enabled participants the opportunity for some to get into the shoes of some people with some forms of disabilities, which served as an eye-opener for them to embrace empathy, communication and understanding as a key tool to proper care for people with disabilities.

Here is "The Stepsisters' Lament" from Disney´s "Cinderella." The lyrics consist of a comparison between their perfect stepsister Cinderella and themselves. They regard themselves as merely "ordinary," but the listeners recognize them as far below the conventional norm of beauty. What is their disability? Dear Kamal, thank you for warm words. All was very well prepared. There were 3-4 guests from US., the about 4 from Russia, 2 from Belarus, one speaker from Iran and we from Poland. Conference also joined Professor Michael Wehmeyer, American psychologist author of known in Poland concepts of self-determination of persons with disabilities. The entire atmpsphere was fabulous. The yesterday dinner was also extraordinary, because we listen to the piano play and singing of the blind girl during dinner. After she finished the professor from St. Petersbourgh sat to the piano and played great Russian songs. We all sang. I had great time, my speech was warm welcomed. I got congratulations from the Head professor of the conference. The most important was as always for me listening to the inspiring speeches, of different professors and their approaches etc. I'm very satisfied and feel great. Thank you dear Kamal, my family is happy, having me at home :))

I must say I have enjoyed this topic far beyond the limits I expected earlier. If I am given the opportunity to say poetically, we close the gap between this human-egoism, when it comes to talking about one person has a disability and the other no disability.

Dear Kamal, the song is really good so is lyrics. This lyrics is since beginning the speech to a friend, kind of confession and explanations of evil and negative experiences in his life. I noticed some characteristic of brain stroke.

But one friend cannot offer advices to another, because he thinks he drowns in many defects, and is build from only defects. I do not know if former translation gave deep reflection of this lyrics, but I hope so. Anyway, this is song of two lost men being friends. The song express friendship value and simple talk, which helps.

The way the world looked at my brother gave me a keen appreciation of the dignity of all lving beings. And so probably for me, songs about disability (or that I "hear"thru disability) connect me with the sense of wonder for all living beings.

Here is a song, "My Funny Valentine," by Rogers and Hart, which says nothing at all favorable about this lover´s physical appearance.  In fact, the speaker seeks every occasion to point out physical flaws, running counter to the norm.  I think that if a woman sang this song to me, I would walk right out of the room:
