I am working on developing a sediment toxicity test for the South African coastal waters using an amphipod species. We have addressed salinity issues for the species and we have partly addressed issues on sediment parameters (grain size and organic matter) as well. But at what point would we reach a stage where our amphipod species can be regarded as a standard toxicity test organism for the South African coastal waters? Is there a criteria that a potential tox test organims needs to meet for it to become a standard tox test species?
