I know some programming language like C, C++, R and familer with basic concept of Matlab and phyton.
As a prospective PhD student in cognitive psychology I'm not sure what should I write about programming in the resume.
In other words, I like to know, what specific skills in programming is important for graduate school?
It will depend, in everything, on the statistical artifact that is going to be used in such research in addition to the variables to be measured ... in any case: The maximum possible !.

Learning programming is, of course, not easy. There are really good resources available, and with the right motivation, you can learn how to program. If you are early in your career (Master, Ph.D., or Post-doc) the time you spend now on learning programming now will be rewarding in many ways. It is both challenging and fun and may change your way of thinking. It will also make your research easier to reproduce. Programming is essential, I think learning Python (or any programming) is necessary so that one could ask questions, get ideas, and involve in projects.
I think the need for specific knowledge in programming languages will arise as a result of the experimental software and the statistical software used at the univeraity/facilty/institute/departement you are working with. There is both experimental (e-prime, Inquisit) and statistical software (SPSS, JAMOVI, JASP) that is very commonly used in cognitive psychology and require little to no prior experience in coding. As a result I know many cognitive psychologists with no knowledge or interest in programming.
Given these considerations, I personally think that you are already well versed in programming languages. Check out PsychoPy, which is a cross-platform versatile experimental environment written in Python which should get you covered for all experiments you are planning. Additonally, with experience in R you should be able to perform all of your statistical analyses. I think you shoild keep this advice in mind when writing your resume.

I agree the maximum possible, especially if you want to produce functioning simulations
Contrary to the popular view brought forward by Francisco Javier Gala and Clifton Weston I do not think that mastering as many programming languages as possible will grant you an incremental benefit as compared to focusing on R and python, which is already in the skill set of Kamran Akbari .
To my understanding, R is perfectly able to create simulations and, if necessary, can communicate with other programs or parse other programming languages and thus adds to the versatility of this programming language. I thus strongly advice to stick with R and python, but keep in mind that scientific work is not all about coding and if you have a specific coding question, you can always ask here on RG ;)

I agree that more knowledge is always favorable. However, as time is always a limited ressource I would rather advice prospective researchers in cognitive psychology to focus on other things, because as I already said, you can conduct studies and analyze results without the slightest bit of coding. Additionally, you can learn a lot of ot on the fly if required. If mastery of a programming language is required or your personal goal, I would say R is a very good option because of its versatility.

I think that the problem on which you are working needs to be split into bits and make a programmer understand. Exchange of understandable info is more important between specialties
For example, if you are working on a Continuous Performance task in Attention experiments.. you get the response times, correct and wrong responses.Next what you want to do?
Are you looking for a time series model with autocorrelation?
We can explain to a programmer and jointly work out formutual understanding.
As mentioned before, I am proficient in several programming languages. And my specific question was what kind of specific programming skills are needed for a PhD student in cognitive psychology?
It's obvious that statistical analysis skills is essential. But what about other skills, like image and signal processing, AI and something else.

Dear @Bhogaraju-Anand the main thing you said seems to be " We don't even need to know programming language as cognitive psychologist" and the main concern must be translate of ideas from psychology language to programming language. Is that right? I think I got your idea.
But fortunately I'm at the both side, and now looks I have another problem, exchange.
