The choice of oil in a heating-bath depends on the boiling point of the solvent used in the reaction as medium. Normally silicone oils are used in oil-bath, that can be heated safely in a fume cupboard, up to 160oC. Beyond that a lot of fume formation takes place. Aldrich Catalogue has a high temperature fluid that can be used at higher temperatures.
