What methods can we use to eliminate the periodic texture of the fabric? When we deal with colored fabrics, it is found that it is difficult for general filters to filter out these periodic textures, which is a great obstacle to extracting defects. If we want to extract the defects, we must first filter out the texture.
Filtering Out Texture
Any given digital image may be specified and analysed as a set of pixel definitions as shown in my RG post “Measuring the Contribution of Texture to Colour Appearance” Oulton, D., Peterman, E. & Bowen, A. The texture filtering technique used treats on-screen pixel location, colour identity and RGB value as distinct parameters. On-screen colour was first calibrated and the pixel RGB definitions were then transformed into to CIE XYZ and CIE LAB and LCH colour space co-ordinates. Pixels with known on-screen locations were next grouped with good effect into three-dimensional pixel clusters; such that for each cluster a mean CIE XYZ colour co-ordinate identity was specified and CIELAB DE colour difference boundary limits were set. Look if you will at Fig 5 Images ‘a’ to ‘f’ in Appendix 2. They demonstrate not only clear object segmentation but they also reveal instances of some common texture and spatial-relationship related visual difference effects.
