How many times you repeated the experiment and XPS tested? Calcination would alter the intensity level without any doubt.

 Along with Matthias Kleine-Boymann's answer I would like to add ratio of 2p3/2 to 2p1/2 core levels remains 1:2 for any p doublet. By knowing the area under the curve sensitivity of the core level you can quantify elemental concentration of the elements. Also sputtering samples before photoelectron experiments would help to reduce shift in BE value and will help for charge reference of adventitious carbon at 284.6 eV.
