What makes the base catalyst reacts faster than acid catalyst during trans-estrification ?

Normally, the base catalyst complete its reactions within 1 hour where as the acid catalyst tends to finish within 2 hours during transesterification. What mechanism makes the base catalysts react faster than solid acid catalyst ?
