What makes me, me and you, you?

Each of us is unique from genetic standpoint & bundled with different environments, different upbringings, different interactions, different experiences etc. - all these really make us unique.  Even though we study / attend the same subject / matter, yet we might have different opinions on our own.  Moreover, each of us gradually change from birth to death whereby our point of views can be different from what we'd perceived previously.  So there are different permutations of options in our lives that make us very unique.

I believe what makes me me are the things that I am exposed to and raise in over my life time.  As old as I may be I am still learning me.  They type of community I grew up in was a black community yet I was exposed to a lot of white culture.  Therefore, I have had a hard time realizing the plight of our people.  I have gone back to a historically black college to learn more about who I am supposed to be.  Still learning me... Yet, all of that which you mentioned above is a part of us all.  We find ourselves learneing new things we wish we had a long time ago and now have come so accustomed to we have no idea how we have lived without the new fangled things.  Can you picture yourself without a television or a colored television?  This is how we know if we could survie or not without the new thingy;s that have invaded our lives and become an appendage to where we feel we cannot let them go.  I am not sure if that is what you are looking for in an answer, but this is how I see some of the things you have asked about.  If I think of anything else I will say what comes to mind.  If you wish to email me personally you can send it to my school email... Every angle, view point is crucial to understand the matter. I t is interesting that you mentioned the influence of our environment...as we are the byproduct of the community we grow up. Hi Samuel:

Every one are unique, what makes different as a researcher is that adaptability and willingness to learn new things..... Contribute some good things to the best of my  knowledge to the society.... like sharing our experience/teaching/guide to young professional.... and also try to learn from the younger generation.

It is not only me always that works, it is us (environment and world)  that would give more satisfactions in what ever new things being done..... if a  small thing changed by us can protect others for good is what i believe strongly....

As a researcher i am motivated by self and adopt with changes.... it is very unique to work and study (upgrade qualification by attending exams).....

Thank you for your contribution. I also agree our interpretation of others behavior is one way that shows our identity. The way we learn, what we learn and teach modifies us, shape and lead us to our unique identity....great! Chemistry could be another thing to examine if it makes us, us.

Everything that exist is unique.  Each rock on the beach is unique.  Every tree is unique. Every ant is unique.  Every fingerprint is unique.    To be unique is universal, the most non-unique thing there is.  I do not get why it should be mentioned as a defining feature?  Is it because each human is more unique relative to the other human than each bonobo relative to its community? Are they human more unique than other?  Is it better to be more unique?  Is education about uniformization or diversification?  Success seems to be on the side of conformity.  Getting a good grade is succeeding in giving the expected answers.

We are unique genetically. And have different upbringing as Han said previously, with different personalities and different perspectives to life. But still, I believe that it is you who can make yourself distinctive and unique. It is a personal choice to be unique.

Everyone has a “Personal Character”. First we must understand what is character? Pocket Oxford English Dictionary (2007) defines “character” as the qualities that make a person different from other people. The view of McCullough & Snyder (2000) is that the character is a higher-order construct reflecting the possession of several of the component virtues.

A person who has a “good character” is the best person. Opatha & Teong (2014) state that personal character is the nature of one’s moral qualities or characteristics. Good character is related to morality or civility and the bad character is related to immorality or incivility. In other words the personal character is the degree of one’s morality and immorality. The nature of character that has virtues to the highest extent and has no existence of vices can be called the highest level of good character is the view of Opatha (2010).

Zagzebski (1998) presents a set of virtues. They are namely, Wisdom, Courage, Benevolence, Justice, Honesty, Loyalty, Integrity and Generosity.

Opatha & Teong (2014) state that personal character is the degree of one’s morality and immorality. My view is the degree of one’s morality and immorality make a unique person, because the degree varies person to person.

To know our uniqueness is a hope. If each of us is unique, we have a unique way of seeing the world, solving problems...doing things differently in general. It is interesting the hypothesis by @Louise, "Everything that exist is unique" and uniqueness is universal ...as inevitable to everything. and @Arwa, mentioned it is our choice to bring out distinctiveness and embrace reality.

I like the saying @ Shafagat "Man must do whatever he wants, no compulsion" though I am not sure if I get it right. It seems, everyone is distinct in his ownway and no body judges no body...in his own way, he is right....!

@Anuradha, you have seen it from personal character point of view and it is a good approach discussing by giving a reference, which is a good trend we all have to adopt. And as Liqaa said, to be unique is nice what ever it is, interesting!

There ways we are unique that are rather not really important such as the exact form of our fingers and these kinds of uniqueness should not the occasion of celebration.  We should celebrate a uniqueness when it has some value for the person and for others, especially in the later case when that person is uniquely able to give something to other that nobody else can.  A mother or a father are in that special unique position relatively to her children.

Biologically, a person has a range of alternatives, depending on genetic composition. Relation with the environment, make possible several of potential alternatives.

Socially, a person is what she/he do. The result of people acts is the culture, in the widest sense of that concept. The sequences of acts, in a period of time, is the history. That's why is said that people have cultural historical character. From the complexity of the social relations, in different moments, where people act, it would be inferred the uncountable number of persons, resulting from that interaction.

Identity is perceived for oneself and is recognized for others. And this identity, I think, it comes from God who is wise to make such persons.

Good to read from you again and thank you for holding your ground. uniqueness could reveal itself in a good or bad way. Yes, I agree with your argument. Uniqueness for instance in being criminal minded or some kind of mutation development may not be appreciated. But lets stick to the topic and see what ever reason we have that make us distinct.
