I am developing a scale that contains both ordinal and dichotomous items that are hypothesized to be affected by the same latent construct.

For dichotomous items, tetrachoric correlation matrix is often used and for ordinal one, polychoric/Pearson.

I am wondering should i separate these two types of items and use different correlation matrix accordingly. Or is there a better way to combine them?
