As you know, FGMs usually include metal and ceramic. Also, These materials have been used in high temperature environments. Based on the references, there are few temperature dependent materials which can be used in FGMs. So, what kind of ceramic and metal are proper to make a FGM? Is the composition of the silicon nitride and zirconium dioxide good or not? whats is your suggestion?
To define a system you can process to FGM the most important thing is the phase stability at processing temperature and at temperature of application. Each phase should be stable itselve and the phases should not react with each other. MgO is a very stable oxide, that does not react with many metals (e.g. Mo). Therfore it is very well suited to produce FGM. Si3N4 however is not stable at high temperatures, because it looses N2. Also Si and N can potentially react with metals (e.g. Ti). Most effective is the powder metallurgy route, because you can simply mix the needed composition and densify by hot pressing (e.g. SPS). For more details please see our publication B. FGM can produce from metal to metal or metal to ceramic dependent on applications and manufacturing method to produce it.
Thermal stability and thermal explanation coefficient for select materials must be approximately equal.
