We can say human art is the gift of god and nothing can replace it. But current era is full of technological well versed and we want faster work with use of technology.
When it comes to loss of jobs of artist it's real, as today science and technology have higher position than anything else.
Industrial modellers doesn't only model a design but creatively determine the dimension specification that best suit the design in real life scenarios. This can't be taken from them, 3D printer is just a machine; a machine is to simplify, fastening and increase the accuracy of an operator work and in this case, they are the operators of 3D printer. So they can't lose their job, the machine is there to compliment them.
All we know still there is a limitation in #d printing material and most of the artistic works are done on the statue are rocks and clay where u required highly controlled force to work with. I felt 3d printer is still now meant for engineers. there is scope for artists as long as there is a non-involvement of AI in a 3D printer.
The copyright law is protecting the creation of an Artist. In the same way how an original painting is valuable v. a copy of that original. Copying an artist's 3D work is a violation of copyright law.
Unfortunately these are the disadvantages of the 4th industrial revolution. Technology displaces people. Because of such the gap between rich and poor increases. Some inventions are great just the consequences are even greater.
Definitely you have a point. With 3D printing it is possible to reproduce other designs or artwork, which is also the case with photocopy machines, scanners, 3D Scanners, photogrammetry etc. And there are certain copyright laws that protect IP.
I think largely though 3D Printing has enabled a large group of new artists and makers who have now found a new medium to express their creativity. Which makes it one of the most exciting and innovative technologies of the fourth industrial revolution.
