The end goal should be to enhance function. However sometimes doing so may prevent rehabilitation through daily activity. For example, a wheel chair may be more functional for some people, but make them less active and thus limit practice walking (when possible).

We need more research to understand the functional impact of assistive technology interventions for kids with disabilities in general. The development and consistent use of responsive health measurement scales and application of a variety of research methods would lead to more compelling evidence.
