On any week, I receive at least two or three emails from predatory journals asking me to submit my paper to be published. They always address me by name and sometimes even refer to a particular article that I've published. Often the "journals" have absolutely nothing to do with my research. For example, the other day I received a journal that indicated it focuses on genetics research and telling me that because of my "esteemed" reputation, they very much would like me to submit an article--by next week. Interestingly, I am a cultural anthropologist and have never done even a shred of work related to genetics in a 25-year career. My understanding is that if you submit to one of these that may publish it, but will charge a very large fee, and there is no actual review process. I get a lot of these and am wondering what the experiences of colleagues are with these predatory journals and also what your thoughts are about this.
