If a polymer suture loses 50% molecular weight due to in vivo degradation, what % strength loss does that correspond to? Is there any correlation across various molecular weights or polymer types, like a MW half-life rule? Does anyone have good reference papers on this? It can be any resorbable polymer, but PLLA (poly lactic acid) would be best.

just FYI to any followers, I have since answered this question for one type of PLLA fiber.
We saw a 50% reduction in Mw (from an initial of about 180kDa) correlated to 40% loss in ultimate tensile strength, and 0% loss of mass. When I publish full data set, will copy link here.
Hi all, the attached image shows three different polymer chemistries in fiber form that seem to hold a correlation between Mw and strength retention following in vitro degradation. I have never seen this modeled before for different polymers so hopefully this helps someone predict their own material behavior, without having to wait a long time for in vitro degradation results. Please share if you have data that supports or refutes this trend
