I need to design a biotrickling filter for removing odor causing compounds from an open tank. I need to know the steps in designing, e.g., quantifying compounds, knowing flow rate etc. What is the exact step-wise designing process?
Dear Ashwini, please let me to talk a little bit about odour abatement by biofiltration generally. Commonly for biofiltration odorous substances a solid bad biofilter is used. The reason is that absolut concentrations of odorous compound in a waste air stream are low (with the exception of hydrogen sulphide and ammonium sometimes). To operate biotrickling filter under low massload conditions is a little bit tricky task. That is why I recommened to evaluate your decission to use biotrickling filter instead of a solid bad biofilter for odour abatement at first.
All parameters needed for biotrickling filter or solid bad biofilter design you can find in the following publication
