Nocardia otitidis-caviarum ( caviae ) is reported to cause actinomycetoma pedis in India. The actinomycete is present in the local soil. However, only cases attending dermatology clinics are diagnosed. Causey ( 1974 ) at CDC reported study of several cultures isolated from a wide spectrum of diseases including mycetoma, mycotic-keratits, skin abscess, osteomyelitis, serious pulmonary infections and animals. Is this infection under reported and undiagnosed?
