I want to put my SEM photos together to have a picture like the attached photos for my article. Could you please guide me what is the software that I can use?
Imagine that you have some photos and you want to put them together and also add their information. If you use Paint the result is not enough good for a journal article. Because the result would be like the attached file.
I see, first we have to agree that Paint (comes with Windows) is not the same tool as Paint. NET. Next, it is possible to put together several photos in a single photo. For example, if we have 3 photos with, let say, the same dimensions (300×300), it is possible to put together all them in a single photo which will have dimension 900×300. I can write in more details about how to do it... Next, each picture editor is allowing us to add some additional text (information) to our picture(s). So that is a case with Paint. NET too...
Finally, there are a few post on RG regarding increasing the dpi of an image:
I will try to explain one example in few steps (in short).
So, let say you have 3 images, all of them in 300×300 resolution.
Select the one of them which will be on the most left position, and from the menu select Image, and then select Canvas size...
Now for width enter 900, and for height enter 300 pixels. Finally for Anchor select Left and click Ok button;
You will have your selected image on the most left position of "new" larger image. Now you can select your second 300×300 image and from menu first you will have to select Edit than Select All, and then again select Edit than Copy;
Go back to your "new" larger image amd select Edit than Paste. You will be able to drag copied image to desired position;
Thank you so much for your time and help. I greatly appreciate it.
I used the software and prepared the photo. There is a new challenge. The photos are SEM micrographs and some of them are so similar to each other and without any outline, they can not be recognized as two separate photos.
Could you please help me to add outline to the cropped photos?
I do not have any experience in making SEM micrographs :/
I am able to find many such photos here on RG or Google, for example:
Article Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Nanocrystalline ...
Next, I am not sure what you mean by adding outline to the cropped photos? Will try to write one idea, but again I am not sure is that what you asking:
Open some photo in Paint. NET;
To add "outline" to this photo choose Image than Canvas size...
For Anchor select Middle;
If you want to add "outline" that is 20 pixels on the left, 20 pixels on the right, 20 pixels on the bottom and 20 pixels on the top, then for current width add 40 pixels, also for current height add 40 pixels...
Thank you again for your quick reply and time. I am so sorry for asking un-clear questions.
Imagine the photos are like squares. After doing all of the steps based on your guidance, the result would be like the attached file (Fig.1)because some of the are totally similar.
You can use at least two tools in Paint. NET. First tool is Line/Curve tool, and second is Shapes tool. With Line tool you will draw lines, and with Shapes tool you will draw shapes. Let say you will select Shapes tool (I am suggesting that approach), then you have to select Rectangle for Shape type, and next Draw Shape Outline for fill mode (see attached image). To draw Squares with this tool hold Shift key while you drawing a rectangle... Now let try :)
It will interest you to know that you can you powerpoint (microsoft 2010 and above) to do what you asked of. Paste the images in on slide side by side, use the textbox to attach the desired name. Highlight all the images and the textbox at the same time by clicking one of the items in the slide. Copy (ctrl + C) then on paste the copied items in your desired file choose paste as image,
