I am doing pH.D in UTM university - Malaysia. My research work focuses on titanium alloys which are well known as expensive materials. I would like to use as the smallest specimen size of tensile test in order to save my research materials. your recommendation is highly required and appreciated..

Hi,
I will suggest you to refer ASTM standard E8 for 'Standard Test Methods for
Tension Testing of Metallic Materials'. They suggest different specimen sizes. Smallest specimen suggested in the standard has total length of 100 mm, gauge length of 25mm and gauge section width of 6 mm and max. width of about 10mm. You can reduce the length of grip section to save some material.

What is the specimen thickness in this case? for a flat specimen!
I have a material of total length 50 mm is that will be possible to perform the tensile test?
According to one published work and I used it in my tensile testing and was perfect.

As far as I know i can see the subsize tensile specimen in ASTM E8/E8M is with 100mm length and 25mm guage length.

I do have the same problem as you have. I want to prepare tensile test samples but I could not find a standard to define small-size samples for the metals.
Were you able to find any standard to suggest the small-size tensile specimen?
