We have actually two approaches of applying the scientific method to theo-logical research:
---historical revelation,
---physico- or natural theology.
The scientifc study of revelation uses re-constructive methods, concerning the chronology of 'oral and written tradtions'; it carries the mental danger of claiming ideological supremacy, due to the earthly power machinery.

From this viewpoint, it can make sense to apply the scientific study of physico-theology to understand the underlying universal blueprint of a possible creator and the final goal of human existence, e.g. redemption of humanity from pain, suffering and death.
The science of theology can be more destructive than nuclear physics and military technology; most 'theologies' are more a representation of evolutionary stages of the human mind than 'divine gifts of human enlightenment'.
However, personally, I am convinced that we can find our creator through daily practices, e.g. healing the sick, developing divine consciousness, good (right) deeds, i.e. it is possible to achieve bliss in a mortal human body by peaceful existence, being prepared for the next journey by full awareness. This is what a science of theology can contribute down here.
