Pakistan is an under-developed country with a huge population under the age of thirty. Internet is a relatively new phenomenon in Pakistan and as yet is available only the urban or comparatively more accessible areas. However, still it has wrought some huge changes in the social setup. The most recent example of the power of new media occurred in the recent elections. Pakistan is unfortunately a democracy where around 60% of the population does not bother to turn up for voting and the ratio is around 30% in urban areas. The reason is the mistrust of the existing political regimes and majority of the educated urban masses used election day as an extra vacation rather than performing their civic duty. However, the emergence of new media and a lot of activism on social media resulted in a dramatic shift. In the recent election held in May 2013, a huge number of people turned up for voting. A relatively new political party had been using the platform of social media to propagate its message. The existing political parties satirically called the party a social media party but they were proven wrong as this newcomer managed to bag a huge number of urban seats as well as coming to power in one out of our five provinces...... Now most of the other parties are also very active on social media.

Poland is becoming increasingly recognized as a place where online activism is developed - fighting for access to public data and all other aspects of this trend are significant. Anti-ACTA protests have put Poland on the global map of cyber activism. There are availabe conferences about developing activism in the network, monitoring the activities of government, transparency, e-state (in-goverment) and so on. It is also a signal that cyber activism can become a key export commodity and the sphere of strengthening Polish "soft power". It is said a lot about the phenomenon of cyber activism that on the 'Greenpeace Poland' website you can find the form under the title 'be the cyber activist'

Spain is highly active in cyber activism. Change.org is a widely used platform in my country. A lot of iniciatives had collected more than 300,000 signatures, a remarkable amount in a country of 46 million people. Newspapers and tv news make reference to iniciatives in this page most of the weeks.

Among the most successful actions I would highlight:

-Change in Spectacles Law in Madrid Region as a result of 428k signatures.

-A Spanish woman affected by cancer comes back from a Bolivian prison, 175k people signed the petition.

-After the scandal of corruption in the political party currently governing Spain more than 1.2 million signatures were collected to ask for the dimission of the prime minister.

-Today a lot of people had signed to save the dog of the first woman infected by ebola in Madrid because the authorities want to kill it. There are more than 150k signatures in a few hours.
