People in many countries are suffering from wars and killing and displacement for reasons not entered by them, and powerful countries dictated and weak countries on their terms without justice. What is the role of researchers?
Scientific researchers can play role for peace in the world and achieving justice and Equality:
By not developing any technology that can be disastrous, not using against society, by being ethically sound, by not used by politicians for their personal gains, using it for society welfare only, by not being vindictive, etc.
Science is practised for world peace( i believe) but lot of blood shed is there in the world using the weapon developed by scientific methods/techniques.There was a movement by scientists earlier by name Pugwash.Now it is not active. Scientists should owe to the society and their inventions/discoveries should bring peace to the society at large!

In such cases scientists/researchers should be proactive in analyzing such issues and proposing to their governments as to what is feasible and reasonable and what will not be. They should not be quite and later see and suffer when their society bleeds and tears apart in front of their naked eyes and left with no means to solve it.
A scientist has a unique place and authority in the society he/she works and can play a vital role in teaching that society/government how absence of singularities and stability are vital properties of systems to exist continuously with no need of perturbations.
Peace and justice are analogue prerequisites to a society's absence of singularities and reasons of stability in order members of society enjoy life and happiness with a supreme rule of justice and liberty. To be an onlooker or behave as an outsider in issues that are important to their society with devastating consequences is not a right thing and is not a good judgement fro a person of that stature.

As far as know and experienced opinion of scientists and researchers does not matter as well as their appreciation. Certainly, it would be welcome if scientific objectivism and approach dominated in the world but it is not the case. In summary, this is only a desire. What you have written, is a very sad situation in which researchers can only help as simple citizens.

At all times, the mind scares people.Many of the great scientists were simply destroyed. Scientific opinion means little in society. Only profits...... nothing more. This is a sad situation.Maybe the situation will change in the future ..
But on this day you have to work longer through the education of young society responsible not only for myself but above all for others.

Unfortunately for peace, they have not the power to act in another way, except, of course, by not participating in weapon projects, but that's another story...
In my opinion there is much we can do, but it is not going to be just by being in academia. We have to become involved in our respective governments, but to influence people and contribute, you have to become known to those people who are decision makers.
A Government cannot use missiles if there are no scientists and engineers to design and construct them. While it would be naive of me that it can be done overnight, scientist can start influencing policy on weapons construction(making them less lethal, policy making issues such as economic feasibility analysis, etc.)..
While it is not an ideal solution, I think that we are privileged in being part of the scientific community and as such we have this problem right in front of us. It is not out of our hands we just need to figure out how to keep contributing to its solution.

Of course, but something you have to start. Because if not for our desires and dreams, the work that we do, our professional and personal achievements, also did not have to place. When we define our desires and thus our needs, we try to implement them, some with greater others of lesser consequence. but it must be a cause, this cause are our dreams.
On mine opinion the main role of any academy related person is in peace keeping actions. We can write publications, attend conference in the name of peace. I can voluntarily attend some places and twritories
The role of researchers, scientists and professors is immeasurable in this domain of achieving the justice and equity. International cooperation will bring more quality to the overall progress and to make less differences among us.
Scientific researchers must not allow others, specifically politicians, to misuse their scientific researches against mankind.

I think most politicians not care for Justice and Equality and the achievement of peace, but they are interested in issues that serve their interests. I am in a country that kills dozens every day and every politician defends the battle group that serve him.
Globally, I think that Nelson Mandela (from South of Africa) gave an example of tolerance and peace.
Just a few good politicians as Nelson Mandela was. Maybe some more of positive examples will appear.
There are several examples of millions of people involved in politics, it a little bit. But it's good that they are or were, because their contribution is visible.
Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, ---- may be many more but limited in number those worked for peace and humanity!
