Cell phones use electromagnetic, nonionizing radiations in the microwave range. It is apprehended that exposure to radiation from mobile phones/mobile phone towers causes adverse health effects.

One well-understood effect of microwave radiation is dielectric heating, in which any dielectric material (such as living tissue) is heated by rotations of polar molecules induced by the EMF. Some indicated that the population residing near mobile phone towers suffer from nonspecific symptoms of ill-health such as headache and sleep disturbances.

But there is no conclusive data available so far on the health effects of electromagnetic radiation (mobile phones/mobile phone towers).

World Health Organisation (WHO) has reviewed the articles published across the world on EMF radiation and mentioned “current evidence does not confirm the existence of any health consequences from exposure to low level electromagnetic field". However, in 2011 World Health Organisation’s International Agency for Research on Cancer classified EMF radiation as “possibly carcinogenic.”

Further studies are going on across the world to ascertain the impacts.

Placing towers for mobile phones on residential buildings is quite damaging due to the strong magnetic fields within a 500m radius. This has a strong influence on the health condition of the population. Often, however, the placement of such antennas is consistent with living in the block. They give their bloody meeting rents to the operator. This, however, can not harness their health over time. People are willing to sell their health for some money.

Millions of people are at risk from electromagnetic radiation generated by not only power lines but also household electrical appliance and office equipment. It is estimated that the strength of electromagnetic field one metre above the ground under a typical national power grid transmission line of 135 KV that is common in Pakistan, is around 13.5 mG and less than 2 mG at a distance of 100 meter from the lines. It is therefore unsafe to live under or within 100 metres of the high tension power lines. It is equally unsafe to live or work within two feet of the electrical appliances that emit radiations exceeding 2 mG in terms of EMF. This limit certainly discourages living near defective electrical systems that include the transformers.

Such a situation has arrived in the urban areas of developing countries including Pakistan where the incidence of lifestyle diseases is on an increase since the 1980s. For the public safety therefore, the above pieces of evidence can be widely circulated so that people know the hazards of living or working under or near high tension lines, transformers, and even from computers and other high voltage household appliances that generate EMF exceeding 2 mG.

Magnetic fields have been linked to childhood cancer in many countries and now it's also been shown in Japan. Michinori Kabuto, of the National Institute of Environmental Studies in Ibaraki, along with a number of collaborators have found that children exposed to 4 mG (0.4 µT) or more in their bedrooms had close to five times more leukemia than those living in low-exposure homes. This statistically significant finding appears in the August 1st issue of the International Journal of Cancer.

While the attached Paper gives the background and the current situation on impact of EMR in Karachi, Pakistan, the Japanese Study has provided data obtained from measurements in residential magnetic fields over the course of a full week, rather than just 24 hours —as was the case, for instance, in the 1997 U.S. National Cancer Institute study. These extra measurements show that there was a great deal of variation in homes with high-field levels.

Long exposure to low intensity EMFs can induce resonant frequencies that have specific mechanism on biological systems. The organism as a whole can have its own resonant frequencies. This is one of the reasons for the disturbance of electrochemical processes in the living organism by electromagnetic waves. Other studies indicate that low level exposure could help tumors grow by causing genetic or chemical damage to cells. There is also evidence of effects on the immune system and the reproductive system. “These findings appear to warrant a substantive national commitment to further research, and serious attention of the regulation agencies and the general public” the reports say.

“A significant proportion of the world’s population may be vulnerable to low level risk,” the report concludes, the pervasive nature and the serious consequences of that risk make it significant for society at large. With all of this evidence pointing only towards danger, there is no reason to expose the people to the risk from electromagnetic radiation and to the real possibility of cell damage and cancer.

The main focus of the Study on Impact of Oxidants on the Living Environment is to reverse the Oxidative Stress in order to reduce the adverse impact of oxidant therapy through appropriate reductive rehydration. Accordingly the therapy for reversal of oxidative stress should ideally comprise processes involving reversal of oxidation to reduction; of oxidative dehydration to reductive rehydration, or an overall removal of deficiency of free energy from the deficient site.
