Which one is more important, the number of platelets or the size when it comes to causing cell proliferation?
Please tell me if the platelet size is larger. Does this mean it has more growth factors or more microtubules?
I really appreciate any help you can provide.

Relative to well-known reference values for humans or strain-specific reference values in mice, changes in platelet size, volume, counts , residual RNA content... all have implications. If some or all are values abnormal, they usually indicate at which stage(s) some underlying defect in platelet biology is affected.
Assuming no other defect but large terminal platelet size, MTs and GFs components would be expected to proportionally increase. For example, I know TGFb1 levels increase proportional to meg maturation/size increasing.

The size of platelets or MPV of platelet population is important in many aspects. As you appear to be interested in growth factor content, the bigger the platelet the younger in age it is believed (compared at resting state). The younger/bigger platelet is rich in RNA and total protein content and thus growth factors too. However, if you are talking about bigger platelets in circulation, then count also becomes important, because in many cases of thrombocytopenia (reduced platelet counts in blood), the mean volume of platelets is greater but the total counts per ml also goes down, so the total amount of platelet released growth factors depend both on count and size of platelets.
