The PMEDM has been known for a long time and, as already said, serves to improve surfaces and increase productivity. In my opinion, it is not a new or different procedure from EDM because the contaminations (solid) of EDM are similar to the extra powder. The disadvantage of using powder is that the preparation of the dielectric becomes more complex and wears the flushing system faster. Here, it must always be carefully considered whether the result will meet the higher expenses and costs.
The role powder in EDM process are to enhance the surface roughness and metal removal rate of work material ,then type of powder (Sic, carbide,AL2O3) has a great influence on process.
PM (Powder Materials) enhances the sparking ability as well MRR. They are directly proportional.
But, the carbon particles (in care of hydrocarbons) reacts and forms carbides on the surface of workpiece material, making it harder and brittle. Take this into consideration. So u can't obtain proper surface finish.
