I used diethyl ether as a reducing agent for my organic sample. By adding the diethyl ether rapidly to the organic sample the red coloured solution turns yellow. What is the chemical reaction taking place in the material that causes this?
What reducing agent are you using? Usually reducing agents are dispersed in diethyl ether which makes diethyl ether not a reducing agent. In order to determine what has happen you will need to state what type of organic molecule you are working with, or you can do IR on the material before and after to determine if the chemical modification has occurred. The original and basic function of a reducing agent is to reduce the targeted chemical compound and meanwhile the reducing agent, itself, is oxidized. In your case, diethyl ether reduces the organic sample and its color is changed from red to yellow. I hope you understand the reaction. Good luck!
