Acute and chronic effects of cigarette smoking on vascular endothelial nitrous oxide (NO) and blood pressure.
Acute and chronic smoking has negative effects on the vascular endothelial health mediated through nitrous oxide. This results in increased atherosclerosis and narrowing of the arteries clinically manifesting as coronary artery disease, peripheral vascular disease and Leriche syndrome. Vasoconstriction, blood vessel narrowing, and atherosclerosis are all associated with high blood pressure.

In patients in whom FeNO measurement was being used to help identify possible steroid-responsive disease, the percentage of patients initiating ICS at, or in the one month immediately following their first FeNO measurement was evaluated and split by FeNO category (low/normal, intermediate, high) to explore the effect of FeNO measurement on physician prescribing behaviour.
In the cohort of patients in whom FeNO monitoring was being use to support asthma clinical management, the association between adherence to ICS in the baseline and outcome years (and change in ICS adherence between baseline and outcome) was evaluated, and split by FeNO category, to explore the effect of FeNO level on subsequent patient behaviour. Adherence was assessed in terms of medication possession ratio (MPR, defined as number of days’ supply of therapy/number of days in the total prescribing period × 100%).
NO is mostly of epithelial rather than endothelial, origin as NO output value decreased by 10% from 40 to 36 nl/min, when endothelial NOS inhibited.
Thank you both. My question is "is there any correlation between FeNO and vascular endothelial NO"?? Because Smokers BP is usually high and we know smoking disturbs endothelial function and reduce the production of vas.NO and therefore increase the BP. But measuring Vas.NO is not an easy task. I want to know ' Can we correlate FeNO with Vas.NO. ?? Then I can explain hypertension based on FeNO??(FeNO corelates with PAH as well)
