What is the reasonable limit that the supervisor should not exceed in modifying the thesis or dissertation that he supervises?

There is a lot of debate about the extent to which the supervisor can intervene the single details of the introduced results of a thesis or dissertation of a graduate students. While both, the supervisor and student share responsibility for what they wrote, someone object to the intervention of the supervisor in the simplest details and ask to leave space for the student to make his opinion!!! Hence, Is it possible to draw a clear line separating the two views?
