I am trying to load an isoflavonoid which is hydrophobic in nature onto graphene oxide by simply mixing a 1:1 aqueous dispersion of graphene oxide with the isoflavonoid mixed with DMSO (Compound has high solubility in DMSO) for a period of 24 hours (As per reported literature). I cannot confirm the success of loading since the compound precipitates out in the aqueous phase giving me erroneous results when I take the UV-Vis absorbance readings. I want to remove the precipitate out by a simple DMSO washing but I am afraid that the loaded drug may also wash out since the mechanism of loading is via pi-pi stacking and hydrophobic interactions. I want to know how strong is pi-pi stacking and whether I can wash the precipitate out by DMSO washing.

Also if any changes in the protocol might help with the loading.
