The energy pay back is the operating period to produce an amount of energy equal to that spent in the production of the system.
It is decreasing with time as the prices of both the solar cells and the other components of the system decrease with time.

Accodring to our country situation (Iraq) , the payback period exceed than 25 years for stand alone PV Solar Systems in residential sector because the tariff price in this sector not exceed than 0.8 Cent$/kWh (The cheapest price over the world with governmental subsidy about 94%), but the system price reach about 2$/W which leads to the price of kWh production not less than 7 Cent $.
This project will facing problem with the economic feasibility as well as to some of technical challenges.
