It is not a "very scientific" way to identify insects. You need to send your specimen surely it is Cylindromyia sp.) to a specialist or to use existing keys, but identifying insects from the photographs is not the thing you have to rely on!

I agree with Dmitry. Besides you need to take additional pictures from other insect parts (lateral, ventral, legs, etc.) to present more information than taxonomists can use.

Cylindromyia is quite a large genus and the fauna of the Indian subcontinent is quite poorly studied, with very few keys and a high probability of finding described species. Precise bristle positions and lengths on the legs and body are needed to be able to advance any guess of an identification but, as has been said, without a specimen we can only make an educated guess. Even with a specimen you will have quite a lot of detective work ahead of you and I would recommend some study at a national museum with a large tachinid collection before I would be confident about an identification. You may be correct in your identification but your region is outside my area of expertise so, although it would be fun to look at specimens and attempt a determination, I couldn't promise a speedy result ;)

Hi Abhijit, I'm not specialist on this fly but agree with the comments of other.  my suggestion is: if you are interested to work with tachinid fiies go ahead make some arrangment to work with and learn from one of the experts & in the same time apply for a grant from EU or others for this aim.
