Whether the method is specific for different species? if so kindly say the method used for counting dormant cells of sulphate reducing bacteria (SRB)
For dormant cells
It is possible to use a commercial KIT of fluorescent dyes, Live/Dead, for example, Baclight(TM) for calculation of living and dead cells in a luminescent microscope. Compare these quantity with total cell number of the bacteria counted in the count camera and with quantity of colonies (CFU/ml).
The result for detection of dormant cells will be clear to you.
