Hello, I'm a master student working with fungi. And one of my studies includes the evaluation of the mycelium growth efficiency and biomass production of mushroom strains on different culture media and incubation temperatures. On my experiment, I'm working with 4 media (PDA, MYPA, YGA and Soy Agar) and 4 temperatures (20, 25, 30 and 35ºC). The 2 way Anova tests shows the two factors (medium and temperature) have a significant interaction between each one. Now, I would like to know if there would be a statistical test that could quantify this interaction effect. I'd be glad if anyone could point me in a direction.

In using factorial arrangement or split plot you will get the effect of each variable along witheir interactions in you anova table, so you will have all what you need.
What do you mean by 'quatifying' the interaction? You could get the generalized effect size eta squared if you use the ezANOVA from the ez R package. If the 4 temperatures were a within subjects factor and the 4 media a between subjects factor, the R script in attachement shows how to get these effect sizes.
To quantify the interaction between two factors (medium and temperature), you can use a statistical technique called factorial regression analysis. Factorial regression is an extension of multiple regression that allows you to analyze the effect of multiple independent variables (in this case, medium and temperature) on a single dependent variable (in this case, mycelium growth efficiency and biomass production of mushroom strains).
Factorial regression analysis will allow you to examine the main effects of each independent variable (medium and temperature) as well as the interaction between them. The interaction term will quantify the degree to which the effect of one independent variable depends on the level of the other independent variable. In other words, it will allow you to determine if the effect of the medium on mycelium growth efficiency and biomass production depends on the temperature, or vice versa.
To perform factorial regression analysis, you will need to select a model that represents the relationship between the dependent variable and the independent variables. A common model is the linear regression model, which assumes that the relationship between the dependent variable and the independent variables is linear.
You can use a statistical software package such as R or SAS to perform factorial regression analysis. The output of the analysis will include estimates of the main effects of each independent variable, as well as the interaction term, and tests of statistical significance for each term.
Il me semble que pour voir l'influence des facteurs (généralement des variables) sur les développements des végétaux ou autres (croissance, production, etc..) la méthode des moindres carrés s'avère rentable, elle est généralement exploitée (relation linéaire, calcul du coefficient de corrélation).
Did u mean "where is" exactly a statistically significant interaction between different media and different temperatures? For this, apply TukeyHSD post-hoc (the most used, other options are avaiable like FisherLSD etc...).
Furthermore, u can calculate the effect size.

J'ai évoqué l'analyse multivariée, la méthode des moindres carrés qui peut ma foi traiter les données obtenus. J'aimerai connaitre la problématique tout comme les variables.....Il existe certainement des logiciel plus actualisés (MINITAB 16) qui peuvent répondre à votre traitement des données acquises. Tous les commentaires apportées sur la statistique descriptive par les intervenants sont intéressants. ils signalent bien entendu les différentes méthodes multiples permettant d'aider le chercheur à valoriser ses résultats (méthode des moindres carrés, ANOVA,l'analyse de la variance, l'analyse multidimensionnelle "AFC, ACP......). Il restera à l'intéressé de bien canaliser ses commentaires (un autre travail fastidieux). Merci tout le monde!
Merci pour cette réponse! J'ai eu une idée de vos travaux croissance du Mycélium en fonction des milieux synthétiques (PDA, YGA, Agar-Agar...) et des conditions de températures différentes. A mon avis il faut tracer les courbes de la croissance (exprimées en nm, mm...)-axe des ordonnées (f(x)- y) et en abscisse les variations des températures. Vous aurez des courbes/droites croissance du mycélium en fonction des T°C. Il faut comparer les courbes (interprétations). Faites aussi le test de l'ANOVA (02 critères de variations), puis interpréter d’après le test de Fischer le niveau de différentiation (non significatif, significatif, trés significative.......). first and fore most after quatifying your variables there we shall automatically expect the interpretation of dummy variables and therefore after creating those dummy variables you can use one way anova or you can call it multiple regression

Avec deux facteurs étudiés l'ANOVA peut être le test à retenir dans le cadre de vos expériences (le test de Fischer vous donnera le niveau de signification des différences ). Bonne chance chers collègues!
