The model is similar to NDWI but instead of Near infra red (NIR) band MIR band is utilised in case of MNDWI. Therefore, as Xu proposed, the equation is:

Green-MIR/Green+MIR to obtain a MNDWI. It is primarily utilised for removal of built up land noise. So if the coastline you are interested in, is near a built up this will be useful for you. Otherwise you can use NDWI effectively to delineate the coastline for change detection.
