Geotrichum candidum is emerging plant pathogen of tomato, citrus, sugar beet, potato, etc. Is it a mostly post-harvest pathogen or can be harmful in field as well?

Why do you think it is 'emerging'? It has been around a long time, like many pathogens, its appearance in the literature may be more a reflection of the interests of individual pathologists.
I have seen/isolated it causing severe rot of carrots (in the field), also on ornamentals (during production).
I have generally considered it is a common/ubiquitous (soil) organism, low grade/oppportunistic pathogen, and its appearance as a sporadic cause of significant plant disease being very dependent on (environmental) conditions, e.g. following damage, some change in production system, rotation, etc.
Steven J Roberts Steve, "emerging for Russia" would be correct, because we have increased problems with acid-producing plant pathogens (Geotrichum candidum, Leuconostoc spp.) within last 3-4 years on carrorts, tomatoes, potato, sugar beet. The pathogenic strains are different from soil saprophytes, at least in physiological traits. .
This disease infects fruit trees specially stone fruits. The pathogen is bacteria. Tress infected produce gum from their barks. In the worst cases, above parts of infected area die.
Geotrichum candidum is an important plant pathogen, it infects many vegetable crops and some fruits.
Also, this fungus is considered as a human pathogen and it can be isolated from soil, air, water, cereals, etc...

This disease has seen in tomato fruits. It cause softening and sour taste of ripen fruits.
This fungus (Geotrichum candidum) can tolerate the acidity of the substrate. It can be used in some traditional fermented milks.

I think that wide spreading of Geotrichum and Leuconostoc plant pathogens could be stimulated by heavy application of chemical fertilizers that results in increasing soil acidity. I have met many cases supporting this idea.
Principally, fungi plant disease prefer the the with acidity Ph than alkaloids.
