Hi The gestation period for a Wistar rat is between 19 & 21 days, and the birth weight of the pups will be 5g, this may vary depending on the number of young the Dam is gestating, but as a general rule you can quote 5 grams and be assured that that weight will be acceptable.
Gestational length is 20-22 days, average 21 days. Number of pups in utero, disease condition, handling, nutrition and toxic or chemical substances could affect the weight of the pups, but on the average, the weight is about 5.5 g
Of course, the gestational length is average 21 days. Concerning the body weight of pups it could vary between 4 and 6 g depending on the stress and other external factors affecting the gestational period. We noticed generally low BW in pups of stressed rats and slightly lower BW in pups of intoxicated rats with low levels of heavy metals (Al and Pb).
The gestation period is normally 22 days, but can vary from 21 to 23 (and rarely to 26). A postpartum pregnancy will last 28 days.
along with all the mentioned factors affecting dam during pregnancy.... bedding material and management may also contribute. along with this temp of shed and compostion of diet and nutrient density, age of dam may also affect during this period
