Recently, there has been concern over the matter that more and more PhD holders are graduating every year even-though, the job field is saturated. So, could anyone expert or having a PhD share their experiences on what are the fields to work with after completing a PhD in cancer biology or Toxicology or Immunology?
A PhD degree in Biology is a good start for someone interested in the research field or in teaching. But nowadays, and due to the overload of graduate Biologists I might say that it is not enough to hold a PhD as unique qualification. Even Otto Warburg (Nobel Laureate) understood this problem back in the 1920s. So after becoming a prominent chemist he studied Medicine and became an MD, even he never practiced as a physician.
I strongly support Tomas Koltai's answer. Nowadays, more and more physicians (MD) are involved in the field of cancer biology with tremendous impact on research. Physicians present a more spherical approach to lead cancer biology researches.
Another field of research is to combine cancer biology with bioinformatics.
The PhD degree in Biology could gave you a possibility to work in many different fields. It could be a position in Hospital lab in cancer investigation or Laboratory medicine and Immunology. At pharmaceutical and diagnostic companies for a producing medical or reagents kits. The position in University it is one of the possibilities. The jobs market depends of a country development too.
