Cadmium, a toxic heavy metal is an effective shortand lonCadmium a toxic heavy metal with short and long term effects particularly showing accumulation in organs as kidney, liver brain and testis. (Holt & Webb, 1987).
Cadmium is assumed to cause pancreatic cancer and diabetes mellitus. It can induce apoptosis in pancreatic beta-cells. Studies on the toxicity of cadmium and its accumulation in several organs were performed with Wistar rats (and don't know which type of rat you mean) and described in the literature.
Cadmium accumulate in beta cells of pancreas and in other vital organs as well. Acute, nontoxic cadmium exposure inhibits pancreatic protease activities in the albino rats ( Konishi N, et al. Toxicol Appl Pharmacol. 1990.)
