Hi All!
As a graduate student at Arizona State University, we have been studying the difference between research and evaluation. As a student, this is a topic I had never even considered before!
In my mind, research if finding out something new about the world while evaluation is going over or reviewing what has already been discovered for a certain population.
I would love any insight anyone has on this topic as it is new to me!

I don't have anything deep to say. However, I think that evaluation as you describe it is a legitimate subset of research. Also, keep in mind that research in the humanities is often archival, which by its very nature consists of reviewing, analysing, and assessing what's already been written (and/or "discovered", as you put it). This often leads to new insights and fresh perspectives.
