Paradoxes are today considered to be central processes in the functioning of organizations. However, coupled with hypocrisy, how do organizations manage to manage them? What is the difference between the two concepts?
Both are totally different concepts. Organizational paradox refers to combining contradictory but interrelated elements that exist simultaneously. For example, cooperation and competition between firms, using a hybrid organizational structure (decentralization and formalization), and nurturing an organizational culture that is characterized by both sharedness and uniqueness. On the other hand, firm/organizational hypocrisy refers to clear inconsistencies between words and deeds of a firm, i.e. inconsistency in corporate goals and behaviors towards sustainability or likewise clear differences in a firm’s CSR statements and its practices. Corporate hypocrisy may lead to the stakeholders' belief that the firm has failed to keep its promises.
