There are subtle differences which separate the two.

•Justice needn't be personal. Revenge always is.

•Justice is about being fair. Revenge is about getting even.

•Justice gives peace. Revenge gives sadistic pleasure.

•Justice is necessary. Revenge is not.

•Justice is a way to serve punishment. Revenge is more often than not, a way to inflict pain.

•Justice gives closure. Revenge doesn't.

•Justice will never come back to haunt you later. Revenge will.

•Justice is productive. Revenge is harmful and destructive.

•Justice may not be done for self gain. Revenge is always selfish.

•Justice has a purpose. There is no meaning to revenge.

•Justice restores your faith in humanity. Revenge destroys it.

Revenge assumes justice, whereas justice does not assume revenge. Justice is free, revenge is dependent.

Revenge is one-sided and motivated by self-interest, justice is impartial.

Justice is achieved through lawful means. Revenge is achieved through unlawful means.

Justice is the rule of GOD while revenge is rule of devil.

Justice at this situation is an impartial judgement backed legally for an act (good or bad) in the society. On the other hand, revenge is the action taken against someone as a pay back to his/her initial wrong doing and it is not backed by law.

Revenge is full of bad feelings and emotions... it suppose bad behavior.

I see justice as something that comes naturally - the way things should be.

Justice involves the concepts of moral rightness, while revenge focuses more on a personal vendetta.

I completely agree that justice should be essentially restorative, and never retributive. I think that much too often, people scream for "justice" when they only want revenge. It's a way of making themselves feel better.

For justice to be done, you must either right a wrong, or if this is not possible, prevent that same wrong from recurring. That's it.

The notion of “restorative justice” leaves some wiggle room. One way of righting a wrong is restitution, e.g. returning stolen property or paying for damages. But if that is all that’s done, the wrongdoer will still have appropriated an advantage over law-abiding folks, namely an opportunity for possibly getting away with something. It’s like stealing a lottery ticket; even if the ticket doesn’t win, a wrong has still been done. Justice demands something more than simple restitution, otherwise the perpetrator has an unjust advantage. Also, making those who have been wronged “feel better” can be part of restoration, because feeling-wise they are worse off than they were before.The phrase "those who have been wronged" can also be interpreted broadly; when you steal a breadwinner's pay or kill a breadwinner you are harming the rest of their family too.

Revenge is an element of justice when it is carried out by the court. When it carried out by hurt person it may be out of justice as he can cause more hurt to the aggressor and may enter in unendlich revenge.

Justice is, at least in theory, the way we equate with what we deem as moral or immoral action (the definition of which naturally varies across different nations/cultures) through respective reward and punishment.

It is one virtue (refer to the original Iustitia) executed within the context and without the violation of any of the other virtues of man, with the most relevant ones here being prudence, discipline, and knowledge (again, refer to the original prudentia, disciplina, and sapienza).

From a neurophysiological point of view, the execution of Justice is more of a cortical exercise based on a rational assessment of a situation with a moral underpinning, the latter being largely the result of the socio-cultural currents that are bequeathed from generation to generation and therefore a phenomenon in its own right and outside the strict boundaries of rationality, with a value structure that transcends time.

Revenge is motivated by a desire for retribution, the pathways for which originate in the subcortical territories particularly within the RAGE system which crosses wires with other related motivational/emotional systems in the amygdala and the periaqueductal gray, making the execution of Revenge more of an emotional exercise fuelled by the above-mentioned "desire", which concept is aptly explained by the powerful anticipatory drive of the SEEKING system.

This would make Revenge an exercise performed outside the moderating influence of the other virtues and therefore unpredictable as to its suitability for the purpose of punishment, a lesson learnt by the trials and tribulations of generations across time, with the drawn conclusion being that Justice should supersede Revenge in our hierarchy of social values.

Revenge is about retaliation; justice about restoring balance. The motive of revenge has mostly to do with expressing rage, hatred, or spite. It's a protest, or payback, and its foremost intent is to harm.

What is justice? Is it the duty to the moral law, fairness, or revenge? Without trying to inject Socrates, Aristotle or Rawls into the discussion, I think that a lot of people don't follow a well-articulated, philosophical doctrine about justice. To them, justice is whatever satisfies the immediate feeling of compensation or restoration. For a lot of people, lex talionis or revenge counts as justice. I disagree with that idea.
