I would like to request input from scholars regarding the following questions;

(1) What is the difference between the sequence of authors in a manuscript? As in some articles I've seen the supervisors as being the last co-author (I think that is the UK model) however in many cases the supervisor tends to be second, third or fourth in the sequence.

(2) Are there any ethics governing the number of authors?, as many articles list authors as all that worked in the same laboratory/research group are mostly named in every article published within that laboratory/research group.

(3) What is the difference between or rather weightage between being the first author or second/third and being the corresponding author?
