VLDL is a major carrier of triglyceride (60 -70% triglyceride 10-15% cholesterol). A major source of LDL is the degradation of VLDL. Circulating fatty acids are converted by the liver to form triglycerides that are packaged with apolipoprotein and cholesterol which are transported as very low density lipoproteins in the blood. LDLs are the cholesterol rich remnants of the lipid transported VLDL.
The normal concentration is VLDL 5-40 mg/dL. LDL F 60-190 mg/dL, M 80-200 mg/dL
