According to my understanding,
- Conceptualization: just giving definitions to a term used in research from the existing theory. for example; social status
- Operationalization: Process of measuring a Concept. Like, what are dimensions of social status in a research such as ,
1) Wealth (millionaire)
2) Prestige (Harvard professor)
3) Power (military general)
Then we may find some indicators for a certain dimension. e.g. for dimension no.3 (power), the relevant indicators may be
number of people under your supervision
extent of your supervision (work‐related only, or sleep and food?)
You are right. However, there is also another meaning for conceptualization. In qualitative research, conceptualization may also mean deriving concepts through the data coding process and rising in level of abstraction (from first order concepts, to second order themes, to aggregate dimensions).

That is confusing again. Sometime, i think conceptualization may cover the whole process starting from defining concepts + setting dimensions of concepts, setting indicators etc. So, that's why it is difficult to draw a line between these two.
To clear the muddied waters, simply regard the concept as being what you think of first.
Then you follow this by setting down the operations you need to do.
(Sure, you may find a problem with the planned operations, and have to revisit the concept.)
