Statin usage, combined with a reduced ability to metabolize the statin, (due to reduced renal clearance, hepatic function, as well as CYP P-450 polymorphism) may interfere with skeletal muscle protein regeneration and synthesis. I would recommend reading the article to gain more insight.
The mechanism of the HMG- co enzyme reductase and its associated interference in muscle cells are well exhibited in the study. Yes i concur the above study.
The mechanisms of action are likely multi-factorial and included Q10 inhibtion. However, the inhibtion of Co-enzyme Q10 is proabably not a primary mechanism in the symptoms seen in patients with myopathy as suggested here given more recent evidence in the literature, including a randomized controlled trial of Q10 supplementation in patients with myopathy (file attached). Much more work is needed to address this question. I would suggest that various symptoms are likely consequences of the underlying cause and/or the molecular mechanisms for each symptom may have different causes.
